Hello!

I’m Pieter, an artist, illustrator and cartoonist from Belgium.

I previously worked as a graphic designer, but gradually returned to drawing and painting as a more personal form of visual storytelling. Today I’m developing my work towards (children’s) books, editorial illustration, cartoons and other illustrated work.

My work is influenced by the warmth of classic children’s books, old illustrated books and the imperfections of handmade marks. I like pictures that feel alive rather than polished away.

I draw by hand, mostly with traditional materials such as ink, watercolour, gouache, pastel and crayon. Drawing has become my way of slowing down and paying attention.

I’ve received two honorable mentions in international cartoon contests. More recently, some of my cartoons were published in a short story by Marc de Bel, Belgium’s most famous youth author.

During school hours you can often find me in the garden, running in the woods or most of the time: drawing and writing in my studio. I like to share my passion with my 3 kids and just being there for them. To be able to do that with full presence I stand up in the morning at 5:00 AM to do all kinds of stuff that improve my body, mind and work. In the evening I like to read, listen to music or have endless conversations with my wife about everything going on in my busy head. I also enjoy playing a game of chess, padel or having dinner & drinks with friends and family.
